Megan McDonald, whose father was a Police Department detective, was found dead near a dirt path outside Middletown, N.Y. This week, her former boyfriend was arrested.

A 42-year-old New York man has been arrested in the 2003 murder of Megan McDonald, whose baffling case featured on "Dateline" ahead of the solemn 20-year anniversary of her death

"over the past two decades, the New York State Police have been working to find Megan’s killer, identifying two unnamed suspects in the case. "

Now, on the 20th anniversary of McDonald’s death in Orange County, New York State Police told PIX11 News they’re closer than ever to making an arrest in the brutal killing of McDonald, who was the daughter of an NYPD detective.

"We're coming for you," said New York State Police (NYSP) Lieutenant Brad Natalizio. "And we're not going to stop until justice is served for Megan and her family, who has been suffering for 20 years." ....

"Megan McDonald would be 40 today. But Megan McDonald never saw 21.

Her murder 20 years ago, on March 14, 2003, is one of Orange County's hottest cold cases, one that State Police haven't let get cold, despite the years."
